Scaling Innovative Approaches Within US Department of Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program

In this interactive workshop, attendees will hear from Grantees and Subgrantees of the US Department of Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), that have implemented innovative methods, materials and approaches in their weatherization program. Attendees will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and share their own stories and perspectives in breakout groups. Attendees will also learn how their state and agency may be able to work with the National Renewable Energy Lab and Oak Ridge National Lab on WAP-funded pilot projects to scale innovative methods throughout the WAP network.
 The WAP is interested in facilitating the adoption of innovative installation strategies and materials, conducting research to identify underutilized or modified shell measures, new materials, and new energy conservation measures (ECM). The WAP is looking for examples and ideas from Grantees and Subgrantees that could be scaled more broadly across the WAP.
Examples could include:
Manufactured home floor insulation method that reduces installation time by half
Heat pump water heaters

Learning Objectives:

By attending this session, attendees will:
  • Learn about innovative approaches deployed in the WAP network. This may be installation methods, materials, shell measures, or other ECM's.
  • Learn from other members of the WAP network and exchange ideas with other Grantees and Subgrantees regarding innovative approaches
  • Learn about opportunities to participate in piloting innovative approaches in their geographical area, working with the National Renewable Energy Lab and Oak Ridge National Lab
