Patch Garcia

Director of People Operations

Patch Garcia, is the Director of People Operations at Eco Performance Builders in Walnut Creek, California, where she leads recruiting, and employee engagement. At EPB, the goal of People Operations is to improve and humanize business ops in order to create positive employee experiences. Her current project, building a culture of appreciation, focuses on doing on-site performance reviews for newbies every 90 days and providing special perks to all employees once per month.

As someone who has staffed clean energy startups since 2001, Ms. Garcia has worked in a variety of sustainability-focused industries: home performance/energy efficiency, solar (both residential and commercial scale), biotech, zero net energy (ZNE) design, and a zero-emissions/IoT product manufacturer.

Patch's claim to fame is in putting women and trans people into roles historically held by men and people of color into management roles. In March 2015, Patch developed the Good Employer Matrix or GEM, a tool that allows her to quickly identify great employers; those who provide market-rate compensation, competitive benefits, and a healthy working environment - based on the employer's financial success.

In her non-work hours, she enjoys sailing, small dogs, red wine, and milk chocolate but not necessarily in that order.
