Air Sealing and Duct Sealing Basics
Air movement is one of the fundamental concepts of building science. Understanding how air moves naturally and how to control air movement will play a role in the comfortability and durability of a residential home. We’ll explore the common methods and materials used to reduce air infiltration and exfiltration in residential buildings with the goal of keeping tempered air in the home. In addition to improving occupant comfort, sealing the forced air distribution system supports the efficiency of heating system operation. Join us for an exploration of how effective air and duct sealing supports the weatherization work we do.
Learning Objectives:
By attending this session, attendees will:
Describe the driving forces of air movement.
Determine strategies for completing effective air sealing.
Prioritize duct system sealing inside and outside of the thermal boundary.
