Many parts of the western United States are facing historic drought. In May 2021 the City of Oakley, Utah put a 180-day moratorium on any building permit requiring a new connection to the city’s water supply. Water availability is becoming an increasing concern for builders and the communities they build in. This makes it even more critical for builders to demonstrate good stewardship of water resources. RESNET’s HERS H2O Program is a whole-house water efficiency rating, and it can be used to achieve the WaterSense Label for Homes under version 2.0. HERS H2O Ratings can be done on both new and existing homes. After an initial pilot program, starting in October of 2020 in the Las Vegas market, both programs launched nationally in February of 2021. More than 3,000 H2O Ratings have been completed. Come to this session to learn how water scarcity is impacting the building industry, how to rate homes for water efficiency and what we learned from the data on these homes.
