As we venture towards our goal of electrification of all buildings, new roads need to be paved for different buildings and housing stock. Multifamily buildings come in many shapes and sizes, with many different utility responsibilities, landlord/tenant relationships, and challenges of their own. In this session, we will learn what characteristics of each building play an impact on the ease or difficulty in converting today’s heat pump technology for clean, efficient electrification of this housing stock. Learn what types of new technologies are available and how they may fit each type of existing systems and building configurations. Also, discuss what we can do to electrify domestic hot water in these dwellings. Go through some case studies of recently finished or ongoing projects that will tell the story of lessons learned through the process. Briefly go over possible funding sources available to help landlords make the decision to electrify their properties. New to the industry and experienced attendees can benefit from some of the case studies we will learn from when evaluating multifamily housing for electrification.
Learning Objectives:
By attending this session, attendees will:
See firsthand from case studies how challenges can be overcome and our goals met
Understand the challenges of tenant/landlord relationships and utility metering and impacts on the ease or difficulty of electrification of multifamily housing
Learn how today’s technologies are best fit to implement into existing buildings and their heating, cooling, and domestic hot water systems
